Meeting Individual Needs Policy

My child minding service is available to all children (male and female) within the community. Each child’s individual needs will be discussed in full with parents (and the child where possible). Prior to committing to a contract there will be plenty of time to discuss the child’s development. This will give everyone the opportunity to focus on supporting the child at whatever stage of development they begin. The child will be given the opportunity to be involved and make choices with regard to the activities and games on offer.

I will be recording information regarding the child’s development and behaviour in order to build a picture as to what they can achieve in order to plan for future learning and development.

My setting will be as child friendly as possible in order to allow all children to participate in events. Parents and children will be shown around my home to ensure that if a child has a disability that my home will be suitable for their needs. I will access toys and equipment suitable for all children.

I have a copy of the S.E.N. Code of Practice and understand the principles behind this. I understand the need to discuss the child’s progress on a regular basis with parents’ as they know their child best. If I have any concerns I will raise them with the parent and will always advise them to seek help from relevant professionals i.e. GP, Health Visitor, School Teacher or Additional Educational Needs Co-ordinator A.E.N.C.O. where possible and where appropriate.

I will undertake training where possible in order to gain more knowledge and understanding of a child with additional needs. If I need further support or training I can contact:

•             Lea Additional Educational Needs Co-ordinator (AENCO)

 

Should I decide to take on an assistant I know that it is my responsibility to ensure that they meet this standard. I will ensure that they receive appropriate training and are covered under my Liability Insurance.

This policy is written in conjunction with my Equal Opportunities Policy to ensure that no child is discriminated against and is given every opportunity to flourish within my setting.
